Fiorentina sit bottom of Serie A after 18 rounds.
According to Football Italia, the Viola are expected to make major January changes to halt the slide. Stefano Pioli has already been dismissed and successor Paolo Vanoli is on the brink, though incoming director Fabio Paratici appears reluctant to make another change.
Results have been grim, just two wins in 18 league matches. Last season’s second-top Serie A scorer Moise Kean has only five this term, while David De Gea has faced criticism. Sporting director Daniele Pradé resigned in November, days before Pioli’s exit.
Under Vanoli, Fiorentina have one Conference League victory and two in Serie A, alongside two draws and six defeats. A 1-0 loss to Lausanne-Sport means a knockout play-off awaits.
After that defeat, Vanoli said he believes the team can react and hopes to show it on Sunday. If not, he indicated the January window will be used to evaluate the squad and move on those unwilling to fight.
He added that the pressure is weighing on players, leading to simple errors, and that he must try to revolutionise some things. Vanoli cited a positive trend, pointing to the win over Dinamo Kyiv and a solid display against Verona despite the result.
