Fiorentina have released a statement confirming Edoardo Bove is in intensive care, but tests excluded serious cardiological or neurological damage.

The 22-year-old midfielder collapsed during this evening’s Serie A match against Inter at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, 17 minutes into the game.

He was rushed to the nearby hospital and was already breathing autonomously in the ambulance, regaining consciousness in hospital.

Fiorentina statement on Edoardo Bove

“ACF Fiorentina and the Careggi University Hospital have announced that footballer Edoardo Bove, who was treated on the pitch following a loss of consciousness during the Fiorentina v Inter match, is currently under sedation and is hospitalised in intensive care.

“The Viola player arrived at the emergency department in stable haemodynamic conditions and initial cardiological and neurological tests have ruled out acute damage to the central nervous system and the cardio-respiratory system.

“Bove will be re-evaluated in the next 24 hrs.”

The match was abandoned and will be rescheduled for a later date.

As per Serie A protocol, it will resume from the moment it left off rather than be replayed in its entirety, starting from the 18th minute at 0-0.

Bove is a product of the Roma youth academy and he joined Fiorentina this summer on loan for €1.5m with an option to make the move permanent for a further €10.5m.
