Fiorentina are set to open talks over Roma winger Matias Soule, who is on the radar of Sunderland and Aston Villa. TuttoMercatoWeb reports the Viola will move once they have an agreement with the Argentine and his representatives. The report also suggests he would prefer an experience abroad, with the Premier League his target.

Sunderland have made only one signing so far, Belgium international Thomas Meunier on a two-year deal after leaving Lille. Head coach Regis Le Bris wants further additions after last season’s seventh-place finish secured Europa League football.

The Europa League league phase will add at least eight fixtures to the schedule. Le Bris has urged patience as the club waits on a second summer addition.

After Saturday’s win over York City, he said recruitment is more precise this year, with around six or seven signings targeted rather than the 14 made last summer. He added that the market is slow and it is better to wait than rush decisions.

Sunderland have been linked with Leicester defender Ben Nelson and Bodø/Glimt attacker Jens Petter Hauge, with wide areas a priority. An ambitious move for Soule has been mooted, the Argentina Under-23 forward having 12 goals and 13 assists in 81 Roma appearances since joining from Juventus in summer 2024. The report says his salary is about €2.5m per season, high but attainable for Fiorentina, further talks are planned and Roma have had no official approaches from England.
