CalcioMercato reports that talks have resumed to bring Daniele Rugani back to Florence as Juventus seek to trim their wage bill.

A proposal that fell through only weeks ago is back under discussion between the clubs.

Fiorentina could sacrifice Pietro Comuzzo this summer and are targeting a defender with greater domestic and international experience, a profile that has led them back to Rugani.

The Italian centre-back spent the second half of last season on loan with the Viola. He joined in the winter on a €500,000 paid loan including an obligation to buy at €2 million, contingent on survival and a set number of appearances.

Fiorentina stayed up, but the appearances clause was not met, so the option was not activated.

Senior figures, Fiorentina’s Fabio Paratici and Juventus chief executive Giovanni Carnevali, are studying a structure that would cost the Viola less than the package agreed a year ago.

Rugani is contracted until 30 June 2028 on €1.8 million net per season. Lowering the fee would allow Juventus to avoid €6.6 million gross in wages over the remainder of his deal.
