This Friday 26 July at 18:00 CEST it is finally time - after weeks of intensive preparations, we are about to play our first competitive match under our new coach, Pepijn Lijnders, in the first round of the UNIQA ÖFB Cup against FC Dornbirn 1913.
Four convincing summer friendly wins and a draw have left our boys eager for more – now they need to show they can perform in a competitive match too. West regional league side Dornbirn are perhaps not expected to provide the toughest test after suffering relegation from the second tier last season and having a turbulent summer that included financial difficulties.
Nonetheless, our Red Bulls will be going out to show the seriousness and intensity they need for the new season – as we have a lot we are aiming for!
Are you planning to go to Dornbirn for the match? All the information for away supporters can be found here:
For anyone who can't make it, there will be live text coverage on our English website, as usual. ORF Sport+ is also showing the ÖFB Cup ties on Friday evening in a live conference, in Austria, with the individual match available on a ÖFB TV free live stream.
We have trained really well in the last few weeks, and you could feel a good spirit and lots of excitement. We are all looking forward to getting started now, as the first match of the season is always important. Our opponents, Dornbirn, have not had an easy time, and I am happy that they have managed to start the season. We are going to give them all the respect they deserve. You have to do that to play well and win, even if you are playing a smaller club. We are going there to pressure them right from the start and attack high up the field, however, in order to break through the deep defensive block we expect to face.

We have trained very intensively for several weeks. We are all looking forward to the first cup match. We are almost always favourites in this competition, and that will be the case against Dornbirn too. We have to be very concentrated and put the opponents under pressure right from the start.
