Five Bundesliga players who will be in demand this summer

German football is brimming with talent right now and the Bundesliga’s top clubs have flexed their muscle in European competition this season.

Borussia Dortmund are through to a Champions League final against Real Madrid, while newly-crowned champions Bayer Leverkusen will contest the Europa League equivalent against Atalanta.

Elsewhere, there’s been a stunning season from Stuttgart to secure Champions League football, just a year after avoiding relegation through the play-offs.

After a wonderful season of football in Germany, the division’s top talents are sure to attract interest as we reach the summer transfer window.

Here are five Bundesliga players who will be in demand this summer.

Chris Führich

One of the stars of Stuttgart’s season, Chris Führich has had a season to remember at the MHPArena.

The 26-year-old has eight goals and seven assists in the Bundesliga and leads the division for progressive carries (150). Whether centrally of from the left, the midfielder has added drive to the Stuttgart side and also ranks among the Bundesliga’s top players for successful take-ons (5th), shot-creating actions (6th) and expected assists (7th).

His form earned Führich a debut for Germany in October and the winger is in contention to feature for the national team at a home European Championship this summer.

Führich is understood to have rejected a move to the Premier League last summer and has been scouted by Chelsea and West Ham this season, though English clubs face significant competition from Germany. Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are all keen on a deal for a player who will enter the final 12 months of his contract in the summer. He could be available for a fee of around just €20m (£17.1m).

Victor Boniface

Victor Boniface has been one of the breakout stars of the Bundesliga campaign with the Nigerian a driving force in Bayer Leverkusen’s historic season.

Boniface signed for Leverkusen in a €20m deal from Union Saint-Gilloise last summer after finishing the 2022/23 campaign as the Europa League’s top scorer. He hit the ground running in German football to win the division’s Rookie of the Month award in four consecutive months between August and November.

The 26-year-old’s formidable physical frame and ball-carrying have dismantled defences during a season that has seen Boniface score 20 goals and provide 10 assists in 32 appearances. An injury halted his momentum mid-season, but Boniface is back and aiming to cap a dream debut season at Leverkusen with treble success, as Xabi Alonso’s side take on Atalanta in the Europa League decider and Kaiserslautern in the DFP-Pokal final.

Leverkusen will want to keep their history-making side together ahead of next season but there has been an internal acceptance that one big name could depart. Given the number of European giants in search of a centre-forward, Boniface could figure highly on shortlists.

Serhou Guirassy

Serhou Guirassy has exploded onto the European scene this season after a record-breaking start to the Bundesliga season.

The Stuttgart striker scored 13 goals in the opening seven games of the season, shattering the previous record of 11 set by Robert Lewandowski. Guirassy has continued to fire to propel Stuttgart’s run to Champions League qualification and has 26 goals in 27 games ahead of the Bundesliga’s final weekend.

Fourth, behind Harry Kane, Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe in the race for the European Golden Shoe, it has been an astonishing season for the 28-year-old.

With a release clause of around just €17.5m (£15m), he could be a superb signing in an inflated transfer market.

Max Beier

It would be a major surprise if top clubs had not already enquired about the services of Max Beier who has produced an excellent season to fire Hoffenheim into contention for European football.

The 21-year-old has scored 15 league goals for Hoffenheim, who will be assured of a place in Europe for next season with a win against Bayern Munich on the final weekend.

Beier spent last season on loan in Germany’s second-tier but has handled his first full campaign at this level in fine fashion. Though slight in frame, Beier makes up for his lack of strength with intelligent movement and positioning. He signed a contract extension with Hoffenheim in October, though with the inclusion of a release clause in the region of €30m.

Liverpool, Brighton and Nottingham Forest have been named as a potential suitors, for a player who will hope to break into the Germany senior squad for the summer, after an uncapped first call-up in March.

Jeremie Frimpong

The Bundesliga is a hotbed for eye-catching release clauses this summer and Jeremie Frimpong might just have elite clubs scrambling for his services.

Frimpong has been a revelation since signing for Bayer Leverkusen from Celtic in 2021, with the ex-Manchester City youngster evolving into one of the most effective wing-backs in world football.

The 23-year-old has 14 goals and 12 assists in all competitions for Xabi Alonso’s treble-chasing side with Frimpong granted a licence to maraud forward at will. The result has been consistent end product and inclusion in the Bundesliga Team of the Season in consecutive campaigns.

Available for just £34m, it is an investment that looks too good to turn down.
