Kostas Tsimikas Set for Summer Exit as Liverpool Eye Left-Back Evolution

Liverpool’s Premier League title win under Arne Slot marked a thrilling new era at Anfield. But now, with the confetti settled, attention swiftly turns to squad evolution — and few positions have come under the microscope more than left-back.

As reported by DaveOCKOP, Kostas Tsimikas is increasingly expected to depart the Reds this summer. After five years of dependable service, the Greek international looks poised to seek regular football elsewhere.

“Tsimikas has found minutes increasingly difficult to come by”, the article points out, noting the enduring dominance of Andy Robertson in the position. Slot, intent on integrating younger profiles into the squad, is reportedly eyeing Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez as the long-term solution.

Let’s take a closer look at five realistic destinations for the 29-year-old left-back.

Leeds United

Back in the top flight and determined to stay, Leeds United are described as “serious contenders” for Tsimikas. With Junior Firpo set to leave, Leeds’ need for a reliable full-back is immediate.

“The Greek defender… fits the target profile and a fee in the region of £20million would be given real consideration.”

Tsimikas could relish becoming a key figure in a side rebuilding for sustainability. Regular starts and the challenge of Premier League survival could offer the consistency and responsibility he’s lacked at Anfield.

Valencia

In Spain, Valencia have “identified left-back as a priority position”, with Tsimikas being evaluated as a seasoned option in a side filled with youth.

“Jose Gaya offers experience, but his injury issues continue to remain a worry long-term.”

Valencia’s appeal lies not only in game-time but in style — a more technical environment where Tsimikas’ delivery and discipline could thrive. With UEFA competition also a possibility, this could be an enticing Mediterranean shift for the Greek.

Olympiacos

There’s a growing feeling that Olympiacos could attempt to bring Tsimikas home — and not just as a nostalgic gesture.

“The club’s depth remains a concern… a Kostas Tsimikas homecoming could be on the cards.”

A loan switch could be attractive if Tsimikas wishes to play consistently ahead of UEFA competition and the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Familiar surroundings and guaranteed affection from the fanbase could sweeten the deal.

Fulham

Fulham are preparing for life without Antonee Robinson. Should Liverpool move for the American, Tsimikas could ironically end up as his successor in West London.

“Manager, Marco Silva has shown a preference for proven Premier League players.”

Lille

Meanwhile, Lille are “quietly monitoring” his situation, with a stylistic and tactical match evident. “Tsimikas matches Lille’s stylistic fit with his ability to overlap, deliver from wide areas”, which would appeal to a team with UEFA Champions League aspirations.

What Next for Tsimikas?

Slot’s decision to push for Kerkez and retain Robertson places Tsimikas in a liminal space. With 29 now on his passport, this move must be about playing time and making a decisive impact elsewhere.

“It is looking increasingly likely that Kostas Tsimikas will leave the club this summer.”

Given his professionalism and skillset, Tsimikas won’t be short of options — and Liverpool are unlikely to stand in his way.

Our View – Anfield Index Analysis

From a fan perspective, it’s bittersweet to see Kostas Tsimikas’s time at Liverpool coming to an end. He’s been more than just a squad player — he scored that winning penalty in the FA Cup final, he brought personality, and most of all, he never let the side down when called upon. His loyalty and energy were infectious.

But football doesn’t wait for sentiment. Arne Slot’s desire to refresh the squad, even after winning the title in his first season, shows a manager willing to be ruthless in pursuit of sustained success. Signing someone like Milos Kerkez — younger, more explosive and with years ahead — aligns with Liverpool’s long-term strategy.

That said, letting Tsimikas go for anything less than £15–20m would feel like poor business. He’s Premier League-ready, Champions League-tested, and still in his prime. Clubs like Fulham or Lille would be lucky to have him.

There’s also something poetic about the idea of him returning to Olympiacos. If that’s what he chooses, fair play. But purely from a footballing point of view, we’d love to see him stay in England and show what he can do week in, week out.
