Several Italy internationals moved in January to chase playing time before a potential 2026 World Cup. According to Football Italia, five recent switchers are seeking regular minutes at new clubs.
Giacomo Raspadori returned to Serie A with Atalanta after six months at Atletico Madrid, where he started once from 18 league games. He has already played twice, starting and scoring in a latest 4-0 win. Already in Gennaro Gattuso’s squads, a consistent run could make him a near-certainty, assuming Italy qualify.
Lorenzo Lucca left a frustrating Napoli stint for Nottingham Forest on loan with an option to buy. Despite Napoli adding Lucca and Rasmus Hojlund and Romelu Lukaku’s pre-season injury, he had four Serie A starts, none since October. If minutes come under Sean Dyche, he will certainly be considered at centre-forward.
Daniel Maldini joined Lazio on loan, potentially with an obligation to buy, after three league starts at Atalanta. Maurizio Sarri could even use him as a false nine. Marco Brescianini moved to Fiorentina on loan with option and potential obligation, earning a first league start since October in a recent 2-1 loss to Napoli, but Italy midfield competition is fierce.
Diego Coppola left Brighton and Hove Albion for Paris FC on loan after his first Premier League starts arrived in December. The 22-year-old, capped twice, links up with Ciro Immobile and Luca Koleosho and hopes regular Ligue One minutes help him challenge Alessandro Bastoni, Alessandro Buongiorno, Riccardo Calafiori and Gianluca Mancini.
