The summer is shaping up to be a midfielder's market in the Premier League, with several stars set to be the recipients of strong transfer interest.
We've profiled fivePremier League midfielders that could move for monster fees this summer.
It feels as if thePremier League's entire elite will be at war for Elliot Anderson this summer. The Nottingham Forest midfielder has been one of the league's standouts, even in a struggling side.
No player in thePremier League has won possession more often than Anderson this season At the same time, he ranks in the top 10% of midfielders across Europe for possession won and forward passes completed.
Anderson's ascent has seen him nail down a role with England, and it would be a huge surprise if he were not named in the starting lineup when the Three Lions begin their World Cup campaign against Croatia in June.
His effortless adaptation to international football has teams scrambling for his signature.
Adam Wharton is the profile of midfielder that England long struggled to produce. A technician in the engine room, the brilliance of Wharton is in the simplicity to his game.
Rarely does theCrystal Palace midfielder take more than two touches, while he never wastes an opportunity to play forward and break defensive lines.
This season, he's in the 90th percentile of midfielders in Europe for percentage of duels won and progressive passes. Still just 22, his ceiling is high.
Whispers of Sandro Tonali's interest in exploring his options emerged late in the winter window.Arsenal were rumoured to have tentatively enquired, while both Manchester clubs and Juventus have since joined the chase.
Tonali is reportedly ready to leave Newcastle if the club fail to secure Champions League qualification, a fading prospect asEddie Howe's team struggle for results.
It's understood that his preference is a Serie A return, though it's English suitors who are more likely to have the financial power to meet Newcastle's demands.
Carlos Baleba is not short of ambition. In December, theBrighton midfielder outlined his desire to become the best in the world, ahead of representing Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations.
"It's an ambition [of mine] to be the best midfielder in the world," he said toSky Sports.
"I just want to work hard, to take some advice, to take something from the midfielders. Not just in thePremier League, because I learned a lot from here."
After three seasons on the South Coast, Baleba may feel he's now ready to take the next step.Brighton have history of selling star midfielders to Premier League rivals, with Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo among those to have left and won major trophies. Baleba could be next, with Manchester United a long-term suitor.
Morgan Rogers might have signed a new contract atAston Villa earlier this season, but it's done little to reduce noise around his future. Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur see Rogers as a dream target for the summer, while Arsenal are also admirers.
It's with good reason. Rogers has been a revelation since stepping up from the Championship. Since the start of last season, the 23-year-old has scored 24 goals and added 20 assists for Unai Emery's side.
Across Europe's top five leagues, the only players aged under 24 to have scored 24+ goals and record 20+ assists in all competitions in that timeframe are Rogers, Lamine Yamal, Bradley Barcola and Michael Olise. He's in elite company.
There's an argument that Rogers is ahead of Jude Bellingham, Cole Palmer and Phil Foden in Thomas Tuchel's thoughts for the World Cup.
