Manchester City began their Carabao Cup title defence in emphatic fashion, cruising past Norwich City 5-0 at the Etihad Stadium.

The main talking point was the outstanding debut of 17-year-old Floyd Samba, who struck twice to announce himself on the first-team stage. The teenager, whose father Chris Samba enjoyed a lengthy Premier League career, headed City ahead after Allan's delivery found him inside the area.

Norwich struggled to contain City's pace and movement, with Rayan Cherki doubling the advantage shortly afterwards following a clever pass from Ayyoub Bouaddi.

The hosts continued to dominate after the interval. Allan turned provider into goalscorer, cutting inside before firing a composed low finish into the corner.

Samba then produced the highlight of the evening, curling a superb effort beyond the Norwich goalkeeper to complete his brace.

Ryan McAidoo completed the scoring in the closing stages after arriving at the far post to finish another flowing City attack.

Norwich briefly appeared to have scored through substitute Mohamed Toure, but the effort was correctly ruled out for offside, leaving City with a comfortable clean sheet.
