Leeds United lost 3-2 to Wrexham in their first pre-season outing in America. Key takeaways included Sean Longstaff’s push to start, a promising 4-2-3-1, Harry Wilson’s threat, standout youth, and injuries to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jaka Bijol.

Joel Piroe hit a first-half penalty against the post, and before the break Callum Mills helped create a chance Willy Gnonto could not take. As reported by yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, after a half-time reshuffle Wilson quickly sent Gnonto through, Piroe equalised with a backheel, Ao Tanaka’s error preceded the winner, and Wilson clipped over in the 93rd minute.

Ampadu and Anton Stach look near-certainties in midfield if Daniel Farke uses a two. Longstaff strengthened his case with a goal, having started regularly early last season.

A back three of Joe Rodon, James Justin and Alfie Cresswell looked vulnerable, with Rodon below par. After the break Ampadu partnered Rodon, Bogle and Justin were full backs, and a 4-2-3-1 with Lukas Nmecha up top and Wilson at No 10 suited the playmaker.

Wilson carried immediate menace, supplying Gnonto and almost rescuing a draw late on. A free signing of clear quality, he could operate centrally or from the right.

Teenagers Jayden Lienou, Cresswell and the 17-year-old Mills started, with Mills the standout for touch and vision. Rhys Chadwick, Ollie Pickles, Charlie Crew and Freddie Lane also featured, Crew nearly carving out an equaliser.

Calvert-Lewin has had a minor setback and is training individually, and Bijol has a knee knock. Sebastiaan Bornauw was not risked with a minor issue, while Ilia Gruev remains out after a meniscus injury. With only Piroe and Nmecha as natural centre forwards, and Nmecha holding up play without a threat on goal, another striker would look prudent.
