Flaco López is entering a decisive spell at Palmeiras as he seeks a World Cup place with Argentina. According to Globo.com, the striker has been in Lionel Scaloni’s recent squads and is trying to stay in the frame for 2026.

He finished last year as Palmeiras’ leading scorer with 25 goals and six assists. He has three outings in the Paulista this season, including an assist in the win over Santos. He is still building rhythm and wants to impress over the next two months before the final FIFA window ahead of the tournament.

After scoring in the win over Mirassol, he said it is a World Cup year and he must do his job at the club to be in the best condition and available to the national team coach.

He said he aims to surpass himself each year and be better than last season, while continuing to learn. He feels good and is happy to be part of the team. If he does his best, goals and assists will follow.

Scaloni, who has led Argentina since 2018, is managing a longlist of about 50 players before naming his World Cup squad. The final auditions are set for the Finalissima against Spain on 27 March and a friendly with Qatar on 31 March during the FIFA window.

Argentina are in Group J and open on 16 June against Algeria at Kansas City Stadium in the United States.
