Flaco López settled the derby as Palmeiras beat Corinthians 1-0, making the decisive chance count after a disjointed opening.

An early penalty went begging when Memphis slipped and missed, after Andreas Pereira dragged his foot across the spot. As reported by Globo.com, Palmeiras looked messy before the break, with Gustavo Gómez and Murilo repeatedly organising the back line.

After half-time, goalkeeper Carlos Miguel produced two parried stops and a superb save from a Gabriel Paulista header on 22 minutes. Vitor Roque had few sights of goal and made way for Luighi 17 minutes into the second period.

Allan forced Hugo Souza into a low save two minutes after the restart, then López saw a shot blocked on 23. Luighi squandered a huge opening on 32 after winning possession, before Mauricio carried the ball and slipped López in to score on 38, the striker celebrating by kicking the corner flag and sparking a scuffle on the pitch.

Abel Ferreira made only three changes, adding Ramón Sosa on 42 minutes to inject pace. Lucas Evangelista returned on 44, his first appearance in four months following thigh surgery, a welcome boost late on.
