Flaco López is enjoying his best spell since joining Palmeiras four years ago. The Libertadores win over Sporting Cristal on Tuesday 5 took him to 20 goal involvements in 2026.

According to Nosso Palestra, the Argentine has emerged as the club's focal point in attack across the opening five months of the year. In 30 appearances he has 13 goals and seven assists.

He has been in Argentina squads since October 2025, with the final 2026 World Cup list due in the coming months. His chances of making Lionel Scaloni's squad are improving.

Top scorer for Palmeiras in 2024 with 22 and in 2025 with 25, he has renewed his contract until 2029. His market value is rising and could climb further if he is called up for the World Cup.

With Vitor Roque injured, López has taken on greater responsibility. The no. 42 has scored in three of the last four, with Ramon Sosa on three goals and one assist in the last five.

After the Cristal match, Abel Ferreira was seen making an obscene gesture towards López, which he later called a joke after the forward had teased him. The coach said he demands the most from López, sees him as capable of becoming a top centre-forward at Palmeiras, and treats him like a son. He said he advises the striker morning, afternoon and night, even sending WhatsApp videos.

Palmeiras visit Remo at the Mangueirão on Sunday 10 at 16:00 Brasília time in the Campeonato Brasileiro.
