Lucas Paquetá has rejoined Flamengo after the club reached agreement with West Ham for the midfielder’s transfer. The 28-year-old academy graduate returns eight years after leaving, signing a five-year deal that sets a club and Brazilian record.

According to Globo.com, Flamengo lifted their offer to €42 million to settle the deal. West Ham had accepted €41.25 million, but instalment terms were unresolved, so payment will run through to 2028.

He is expected to arrive in Brazil between Thursday and Friday. If his registration appears on the CBF’s BID by Friday, he would be eligible to debut on Sunday against Corinthians in the Supercopa do Brasil.

Paquetá has sat out West Ham’s recent matches after feeling back discomfort and asking to miss training and games. He informed the club and manager Nuno Espírito Santo of his wish to return to Flamengo, and the Rio club do not believe the issue will prevent him from playing.

In 2025/26 he made 19 appearances for West Ham, scoring five goals with one assist. His last game was the defeat to Nottingham Forest, and he had been a regular starter.

A Flamengo youth product, he debuted in 2016 and became a first-team regular in 2017. He moved to Milan in January 2019, then Lyon, before joining West Ham in 2022.

This transfer is the largest in Brazilian club history, surpassing Gerson’s move to Cruzeiro. Flamengo have also added centre-back Vitão, ex-Inter, and goalkeeper Andrew, ex-Gil Vicente, in the January window.
