From 2027, Maracanã will add a concert programme alongside Flamengo and Fluminense matches after the Fla-Flu management agreed a five-year partnership with Brazilian promoter 30e.
According to Globo.com, 30e will source and organise music events at the stadium, with dates fitted into competition windows so neither club has to relocate home games.
The Fla-Flu management had not commented on pitch protection at the time of publication. Standard arena measures are already used, stages are built on the synthetic area behind the North Stand goal and high-impact polypropylene flooring, 3.5 cm high and rated to 40 tonnes per square metre, covers the grass.
A show by pagode band Sorriso Maroto on Saturday 11 October last year did not affect Fluminense's meeting with Juventude five days later in the Brasileiro. The pitch was judged in good condition and there were no complaints from the clubs.
In 2025, the first year under Fla-Flu management, Maracanã staged 73 matches plus a handful of one-off concerts. The most recent show came on 3 January 2026, during the clubs' off-season, when Henrique e Juliano brought their Manifesto Musical.
Maracanã's new CEO, former Conmebol competitions and operations director Fred Nantes, has set out an ambition to turn the venue into one of Brazil's leading entertainment hubs, broadening its use with quality and excellence to deliver memorable experiences for fans and the city.
