Flamengo have notified the Agência Nacional de Regulação e Sustentabilidade do Futebol (ANRESF), asking it to examine Vasco da Gama’s economic and financial position under the Sistema de Sustentabilidade Financeira (SSF), the club said in a statement.
Vasco are in court-supervised recovery, have reported difficulties meeting obligations and have sought judicial approval for new emergency financing to keep operations running. At the same time, they have remained active in the market with several high-value proposals to strengthen the squad.
The request centres on economic balance, with investments and expenses aligned to the limits set by the SSF. There is a risk of asymmetry if some clubs must curb spending while others expand despite significant financial difficulties.
In the fight to remain in Série A, responsible clubs should not be disadvantaged for respecting their limits. When spending beyond capacity becomes a sporting advantage, equality, credibility and the integrity of the competition are put at risk.
The filing advocates a healthier financial environment and stronger mechanisms to promote responsibility. Institutional solidity is essential for industry development and a balanced, sustainable competition.
There is also a risk that, if a SAF diverts resources intended to support operations towards new costs, a bankruptcy ruling could follow. The potential removal of a participant mid-season would damage the championship.
The move is framed as a contribution to the development of Brazilian football. Preserving club sustainability and competition integrity is presented as a collective duty.
