Flamengo have shown interest in São Paulo’s Marcos Antônio, signalling a fresh look at a position that had not been a priority. According to Globo.com, the move is linked to uncertainty over Allan’s future.
The board made three midfield signings in mid last year, yet a further addition is now being assessed. The need arises from Allan being on the negotiable list, with São Paulo and other Brazilian clubs keen, though no offer has yet satisfied Flamengo.
Despite Allan being low in the pecking order under Filipe Luís, the football department believes they cannot afford to lose depth in midfield. The stance is to either keep Allan or bring in a replacement.
Allan still featured in 34 games in 2025. The squad will need rotation, and others in his role will not be available throughout the entire season.
As a result, Flamengo consider that releasing one midfielder must be matched by signing another. The club view a deal involving Allan positively, but would only accept a proposal if a replacement were secured, so that interest has been placed on the table in talks with São Paulo.
