Flamengo have dismissed head coach Filipe Luís with immediate effect, hours after an 8-0 win over Madureira that sealed a place in the Campeonato Carioca final.

The club used social media to bid farewell to their former coach. The club said in a statement that it thanked Filipe Luís for his dedication and achievements and wished him success in the next stage of his career.

Flamengo thrashed Madureira on Monday, then Filipe Luís conducted his post-match press conference as usual. The dismissal was communicated at 01:01 Brasília time on Tuesday.

The decision followed a meeting involving Bap and José Boto, and the coach was taken by surprise. It was subsequently relayed to him.

Filipe Luís took over from Tite at the end of 2024 and leaves after 101 matches, with 64 wins, 22 draws and 15 defeats, a 70% record.

He won seven trophies with Flamengo, including the Copa do Brasil, Supercopa do Brasil, Carioca, Brasileirão, Libertadores, Derby das Américas and Challenger Cup. He was also Club World Cup runner-up after a close match against PSG (FRA).
