Flamengo’s trip to Colombia to face Independiente Medellín in the fourth round of the Libertadores did not result in a match, due to protests from the home supporters. According to Coluna Do Fla, Conmebol is expected to award Flamengo the points. A 3-0 result would give them the best group-stage record.

That outcome would move Flamengo to 10 points with a goal difference of +8. Corinthians and Independiente Rivadavia are also on 10, but trail on goal difference, +6 and +5 respectively.

With that Medellín result taken into account, Flamengo secure qualification for the last 16. Only Estudiantes de La Plata can still overtake them. Medellín could yet reach 10, but the first tie-break is head to head, which favours Flamengo.

Attention now turns to winning Group A, which brings the advantage of deciding later rounds at home. Flamengo still have two group games at the Maracanã, against Estudiantes and Cusco.

In the league, Flamengo visit Grêmio on Sunday 10 at 19:30 Brasília time in round 15 of the Brasileirão. They sit second on 27 points and aim to close the gap to Palmeiras, the leaders on 33 with one game more.
