Filipe Luís turned 41 on Sunday 9 August, and Flamengo’s delayed birthday post on social media drew criticism from supporters.

According to Coluna Do Fla, the club’s message appeared at 18:06 Brasília time after numerous queries about a tribute, and the post was swiftly flooded with replies.

Many fans argued the gesture came too late and said the club should treat one of its great figures with more respect. Others insisted Filipe deserved every possible honour.

Chelsea and Atlético de Madrid, where he played, and Monaco, the team he now manages, all sent their greetings, which he reshared on Instagram. When he reposted Flamengo’s message, he wrote “te amo, Flamengo” and he has never hidden his affection for the club.

There was also a lift on the pitch the same day as Monaco beat Liverpool 3-2 at Anfield in a friendly. The hosts led 2-0 before the French side turned it around.
