Flamengo supporters staged a protest outside CT Ninho do Urubu on Saturday, two days after a 3-2 defeat to Lanús (ARG) left them runners-up in the Recopa Sul-Americana.

Banners at the gates read “Salário em dia, porrada em falta” and “Filipe Luís e suas metodologias”, signalling anger at the head coach. Paparazzo Rubro-Negro reports that Jorge Carrascal was confronted on arrival and was the player most heavily targeted. Club security and the police were mobilised.

The protests were not aimed solely at the squad, with signs also calling out José Boto and the club’s board.

Results have fallen short at the start of the campaign. Flamengo also lost the Supercopa do Brasil to Corinthians and sit 11th in the Campeonato Brasileiro.

Tension has been building since Thursday, when a section of the Maracanã directed an obscene chant at Filipe Luís after the Lanús defeat. The head coach is under contract until December 2027 after renewing late last year, and any dismissal would require a multi-million penalty.

Flamengo face Madureira on Monday in the Campeonato Carioca semi-final, having won the first leg 3-0. Kick-off is 21:00 Brasília time, with a place in the final at stake.
