After clinching a Libertadores quarter-final berth, Flamengo lost 2-1 to Cruzeiro at the Mineirão in round 24. Out of the Copa do Brasil, they now have a free week to concentrate on training for the Brasileirão.
According to Coluna Do Fla, the Copa do Brasil quarter-final first legs take place midweek, and because Flamengo were eliminated by Vitória they will not play. Coach Leonardo Jardim therefore has roughly seven days to ready his squad for the clássico with Botafogo.
Pedro put Flamengo ahead before the break. Nine minutes into the second half, Arroyo levelled. In stoppage time, in the 49th minute, Matheus Pereira completed the turnaround for Cruzeiro.
The defeat left Flamengo on 45 points. Palmeiras, having beaten Vasco, extended their advantage over the Rio club from three to six points, to 51, albeit with a game more.
Flamengo next play on Sunday 30, facing Botafogo at the Maracanã at 16:00 Brasília time in round 25. The match will be shown live on Rede Globo on free-to-air TV, GE TV on YouTube, and Premiere on pay-per-view.
