Flamengo went top of the Brasileirão after Palmeiras and Botafogo drew 0-0 on Sunday, having earlier beaten Remo 1-0.

According to Coluna Do Fla, the club aimed a jibe at Palmeiras on social media and shared a Woody Woodpecker handshake meme with a caption thanking Botafogo.

Palmeiras were held 0-0 by Botafogo at Nilton Santos. Botafogo goalkeeper Gabriel Batista, formerly of Flamengo, impressed and resisted sustained pressure from the visitors.

Flamengo edged Remo 1-0 after a tight first half in which Marcelo Rangel made key saves. On 64 minutes, Arrascaeta threaded a pass to Samuel Lino, who toe-poked into the goalkeeper’s left corner.

The result left Flamengo on 54 points at the summit, with Palmeiras second on 53. Flamengo visit Independiente del Valle on Thursday 10 for the Libertadores quarter-final first leg, 21:30 Brasília time, at Estádio Olímpico Atahualpa in Quito.
