April could mark Saúl’s Flamengo return as his rehabilitation nears completion, with a first call by Leonardo Jardim possible.
According to Globo.com, the midfielder had surgery in January and has recovered smoothly. In March he resumed on-grass work with physiotherapists, alternating boots and trainers, and stepping up ball striking and accelerations.
He is due to enter full fitness work in April. Depending on progress, he could be cleared by the second week to rejoin group sessions. This phase is sensitive because of increased load, so any stronger pain could delay him.
Inside the club he has been praised for relentless dedication, labelled a perfectionist and obsessive about recovery. Typical returns take five to six months, while his comeback is tracking for under four.
He has followed an intense programme, including six weeks in a boot and on crutches before gradual gym work. After immobilisation he used an anti-gravity treadmill, then passed strength tests to reach the pitch.
The operation was in Madrid, Spain’s capital, led by Dutch specialist Niek van Dijk after consultations with trusted doctors. He began recovery in his homeland, then returned to Rio de Janeiro.
Once fitness staff clear him, selection rests with the head coach. Next month brings the Libertadores group-stage opener, the Copa do Brasil fifth phase and league rounds. While sidelined, he has been a regular at Maracanã, joining pre and post-match routines.
