Flamengo have decided to punish Erick Pulgar after the midfielder was sent off against Bragantino in the ninth round of the Brasileirão.
Early in the second half, referee Fernando Salles Nascimento initially showed a yellow card before upgrading it to red after a VAR review for striking an opponent. Under Bap's administration, players are reviewed after each on-field sanction, UOL reports.
The club’s football department assess in each case whether the incident could have been avoided.
There is precedent. Last season, Wallace Yan was dismissed minutes after coming on against Bahia for aggression, and the club also acted then.
Pulgar will serve an automatic suspension, so the number five is ruled out of Flamengo’s 10th-round meeting with Santos.
Without the Chilean, Flamengo face Santos this Sunday at 17:30 Brasília time at the Maracanã. Premiere, on pay-per-view, will broadcast the match.
