Flamengo are confident of tying midfielder Giorgian de Arrascaeta down to a new contract in the near future.
The 27-year-old Uruguay international has been a key cog for the Rubro-Negro since becoming their then record signing when he joined from Cruzeiro in January 2018.
And while extension negotiations have been protracted, vice-president of football Marcos Braz insists he is “calm” about the situation.
“Arrascaeta has another two-year contract. We’ve been trying to expand his relationship with the club,” Braz told the ‘Gustavo Henrique Dando Choque’ YouTube channel.
“There is an item in relation to who still holds 25% of his rights, and we are calmly dealing with this.
“Arrascaeta is a priority, and we are treating him this way.”
Braz added: “My relationship with the athlete is very good. We know of his importance in the group, and we’ll calmly resolve it.”
De Arrascaeta, who is under contract until December 2023, was limited to 14 Brasileirão appearances in 2021 as injury and international duties disrupted his club season.
