Flamengo not back in Libertadores action until August

The World Cup hasn’t even started yet, and the rubro-negro fans are already missing seeing Flamengo in action. That’s because Fla’s last match of the season was last Saturday (30), when the Most Beloved beat Coritiba 3-0. Meanwhile, the Rubro-Negro will only play in the Libertadores again in August.

In short, Flamengo will only return to the pitch on July 22. On that occasion, the Most Beloved will face Chapecoense in a match valid for the 19th round of the Brazilian Championship. In addition, the clash will be played away from home, at Arena Condá.

However, the first and second legs of the Libertadores round of 16 will only take place in August. It is worth noting that Conmebol set the dates and kickoff times for the Flamengo vs Cruzeiro matches last Wednesday (03). In addition, Fla will decide the tie at home because of its group-stage campaign.

First, Flamengo will travel to Belo Horizonte, where it will play the first leg of the Libertadores round of 16 against Cruzeiro on August 12 at 9:30 p.m. (Brasília time), at Mineirão. Before that, however, the Flamengo squad will enjoy a two-week vacation. The players will report back on June 19 at Ninho do Urubu. After that, on the 28th of the same month, the rubro-negro delegation will travel to Portugal, where it will play three friendlies.

On Portuguese soil, the Most Beloved will face Falkirk (SCO), Birmingham (ENG), and Benfica (POR). It is worth noting that Flamengo will travel to Portugal without the players called up for the World Cup. As a result, Leonardo Jardim will complete the squad with youth academy players.
