Flamengo have advanced talks for Almada and optimism among supporters has grown after Atlético de Madrid signed Lee Kang-in on Saturday. The move could, in theory, limit the Argentine’s minutes in Spain and bring a sale this window closer.
According to Globo.com, Atlético, who hold Almada’s registration, confirmed Lee’s arrival from PSG for 35 million euros. Flamengo and River Plate are the main contenders for the midfielder.
A social media tribute from Almada to Otamendi, who has retired from the Argentina national team and recently joined River Plate, has further buoyed Flamengo fans. In the message, Almada thanked his friend for laughs, mate and lessons, said it was an honour to share training, matches, chats and trips, and added that he loves him and they will miss him.
On holiday after the World Cup, Almada returned to Argentina. On Friday he visited the sanctuaries of Difunta Correa in Vallecito and São Expedito in Bermejo with family and friends.
After concluding Ángel Correa’s move from Tigres, Mexico, to River Plate, Almada’s representative Agustín Jiménez is expected in Rio de Janeiro. Flamengo are awaiting him to work through final details of the negotiation.
