Flamengo’s squad are into the final days of their holidays, with a return to Ninho do Urubu scheduled for Friday 19 June.
According to Coluna Do Fla, players will undergo fitness tests on their first day back. Head coach Leonardo Jardim’s plan is to train in Rio de Janeiro until 27 June, then fly on 28 June for a mid-season camp in Portugal during the World Cup.
The football department views the trip as a chance to showcase the club in Europe, aiming to expand the brand and attract revenue and investment into the team.
It will also offer European opposition as preparation for the remainder of the season. Flamengo are currently competing for the Campeonato Brasileiro and the Libertadores.
The camp will be based in the Algarve, starting in Lagos from 29 June to five July, then moving to Estoi for training until 12 July.
Three friendlies are planned against Falkirk, Birmigham and Benfica, representing Scotland, England and Portugal.
Only players called up by their national teams for the World Cup will not travel, namely Arrascaeta, Varela, De La Cruz, Carrascal, Plata, Alex Sandro, Lucas Paquetá, Danilo and Léo Pereira.
Flamengo’s next official match is scheduled for 22 July, against Chapecoense in the Brasileirão, the 19th round.
