Flamengo have had Emerson Royal create a mould for a protective mask after he sustained a nasal fracture in the 1-1 draw with Estudiantes on Wednesday. The club released images of the full-back undergoing the process on Friday.

According to Globo.com, the same third-round Libertadores group-stage match also left Arrascaeta with a broken collarbone that required surgery, while Bruno Henrique limped off after a blow to his right foot but is not a concern.

Club doctor Luiz Macedo said Flamengo have endured an excessive number of fractures in the past month, calling four in one month disproportionate for football and criticising what he sees as permissive refereeing, particularly in the Libertadores.

Five players are currently in the treatment room, only one with a muscular problem. Paquetá has oedema in his left thigh. Pulgar is dealing with a right shoulder joint injury and Léo Pereira has a deep cut to his shin.

Cebolinha was recently sidelined by a broken rib. Royal will need to wear the mask in the coming matches.
