Flamengo have refused to meet Almada’s salary demands, which were seen as disruptive to the club’s wage structure. With the midfielder opting to join River Plate, the Rio side have redirected efforts towards Luiz Henrique.
UOL reports that Almada’s camp sought six million euros, around R$ 35 million, net per year, equating to more than R$ 2.9 million per month. The overall cost would be higher once taxes were applied.
Flamengo declined to increase an offer already viewed internally as substantial. Director of football José Boto travelled to Argentina to negotiate with Almada’s representatives and communicated the stance during talks.
Attention has now shifted to Luiz Henrique, currently at Zenit in Russia, with Flamengo working behind the scenes to strike a deal. The club aim to progress without upsetting their financial planning.
The registration deadline for the Copa Libertadores round of 16 is Friday, 07 August, though Flamengo consider the squad strong enough to face Cruzeiro. With the window open until 11 September, the hierarchy intend to add sensibly rather than bow to inflated demands from agents, a position that also applies to Luiz Henrique.
