Flamengo have moved to restore their pre-match overnight camp under new coach Leonardo Jardim after a week that brought Filipe Luís’s departure. According to Globo.com, the Portuguese plans day-to-day changes, starting with players staying together before games.

Under Filipe Luís, players arrived at the training ground on matchday morning. On Saturday the squad will head to the Ninho late in the afternoon for a final session at 17:00 Brasília time, then sleep on site, which has had hotel facilities for years. Preparations conclude after four sessions with Jardim.

For some, the rules are not new. During Jorge Jesus’s tenure, stricter measures were enforced, including the camp, punctuality and limits on mobile phone use.

Speaking before the final, midfielder Jorginho said the first impression of Leonardo Jardim was very good. He noted the group felt Filipe Luís’s exit but have welcomed the Portuguese, believe in his work and hope he is given time, freedom and trust to deliver.

In recent days, even before Filipe Luís was dismissed, internal pressure increased over certain players’ behaviour. Bap viewed Filipe Luís and José Boto as too liberal in some respects, and Jardim’s harder line was among the reasons the president sought his appointment.

Flamengo are trying to draw a line under a turbulent start, having lost the Supercopa do Brasil to Corinthians and the Recopa Sudamericana to Lanús, alongside an unstable opening to the Brasileirão.
