Flamengo are finalising plans for a mid-season camp in Portugal during the World Cup, with three friendlies lined up. According to Coluna Do Fla, the Brazilian side will face River Plate, Laussane and Benfica across July.
River Plate are pencilled in for the fourth of July, Laussane on the eighth, then Benfica on 11 July, although the fixtures are not yet fully confirmed. All matches are set to be played at Estádio de Algarve.
The squad have been on holiday since 31 May and are due back on Friday 19 June after 19 days off. Players will undergo medical testing at CT Ninho do Urubu on their return.
Leonardo Jardim will lead sessions in Rio de Janeiro until 28 June, with the team travelling on 29 June to Algarve to begin the camp.
Nine players are away at the World Cup, so Arrascaeta, Varela, De La Cruz, Léo Pereira, Alex Sandro, Lucas Paquetá, Danilo, Plata and Carrascal will be absent.
Given those absences, Jardim could hand opportunities to academy players, and he has said he wants to learn more about the club’s young talents during this period.
After the camp, Flamengo are scheduled to visit Chapecoense on 22 July at Arena Condá in the Brasileirão.
