Flamengo dismissed head coach Filipe Luís in the early hours of Tuesday, shortly after the 8-0 win over Madureira. The club have begun the search for his replacement.

GE reports that Flamengo expect to have a new coach in place for Sunday’s Campeonato Carioca final against Fluminense. Portuguese manager Leonardo Jardim is among the leading candidates.

Leonardo Jardim is in Brazil and was on president Bap’s radar at the end of last year. Interest intensified during Filipe Luís’s contract renewal talks, when negotiations became complicated.

Filipe Luís was informed of his exit immediately after a press conference. The decision was communicated by José Boto following a meeting with Bap.

With no coach in post, Flamengo must move quickly in the market. The final at the Maracanã is a single match and decides the Campeonato Carioca title.
