Flamengo are monitoring Botafogo’s Danilo while weighing midfield reinforcements amid growing uncertainty over the position.
According to Globo.com, Flamengo and Palmeiras meet on Saturday in a top-of-the-table clash and are also competing off the pitch for Danilo. Botafogo are reluctant to lose the Brazil international to a major rival and prefer a European move, potentially boosted by his World Cup platform.
If Danilo proves unattainable, Flamengo are tracking alternatives. The club fear they could lose two midfielders this year and are surveying options.
Pulgar, a mainstay before his early April injury, faces an uncertain future. When he renewed last year, his release clause was cut to US$ four million, a figure that applies from mid 2026. His deal runs to the end of next year and proposals are expected mid year, heightening the risk of an exit.
A similar reduction for Gerson, to €25 million last year, was met by Zenit of Russia, who took him from Flamengo.
De la Cruz also has question marks. Admired for his qualities but often sidelined, he is contracted until mid 2028 and any departure would depend on offers, though Flamengo cannot rely on a sustained run.
Saúl is tied to December 2028 yet has not built rhythm after left heel surgery early this year. Leonardo Jardim said he played through pain against Athletico-PR, with the synthetic surface aggravating the issue.
Even so, Flamengo are not rushing into a signing, convinced they still have options. Jardim has recently used Paquetá deeper and he has impressed there since returning to the club.
