Caio Max also operated the VAR in Flamengo v Palmeiras in the 2025 Brasileiro, a match that drew controversy when he did not recommend a review for a possible penalty on Gustavo Gómez in the opening minutes.

On that occasion, the view conveyed was that Jorginho’s arm had no impact on Gómez.

The guidance to Wilton was to let play continue, noting both arms were extended and there was no pushing action.
