Flamengo weigh selection for Vasco as Bruno Pivetti says call rests with board | OneFootball

Flamengo are reassessing who to field for Wednesday’s match with Vasco in the Carioca after a faltering start, and coach Bruno Pivetti says selection ultimately lies with the board.

According to Coluna Do Fla, the plan had been to shield the four-time Libertadores-winning group in the State Championship, but poor early results mean that approach could change.

Pivetti said the strategy is set game by game, that preparation had been directed at facing Volta Redonda, and that an early dismissal shaped that defeat. He added he has no further information because the decision is with the club’s hierarchy.

He also stressed that staff are there to serve the club, and will follow any guidance to aid the senior side’s preparation, with 2026 challenges in mind.

With a draw against Portuguesa and losses to Bangu and Volta Redonda, Flamengo have one point in Group B. They are second bottom and could drop to last if Maricá take points against Portuguesa on Sunday 18.

If they remain in that position, they will play the relegation quadrangular. Kick-off is 21:30 Brasília time at the Maracanã on Wednesday 21.
