After just 12 caps in almost seven years, the 32-year-old was relieved to get that millstone off his neck.

“Very happy to score my first goal, it was something I had been looking for,” Ribeiro told a press conference on Saturday.

“I had already passed close by, and I knew the moment would come. I am very happy to help the team.”

Asked about his club team-mate Gabriel Barbosa, Ribeiro insisted he was confident ‘Gabigol’ would go on to establish himself in the Brazilian set-up.

“He is increasingly loose here in the Seleção, looking for his space,” Ribeiro said.

“He still needs the positioning fit, but with his quality, I’m sure he’ll score a lot of goals for the Seleção.”

Hosts Brazil, who have won their opening two games in Group B, will face Colombia at the Estádio Nilton Santos in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday.
