Flekken ‘to return’ in goal as Leverkusen face Heidenheim

Flekken is back fit and Bild reports he will start in goal for Bayer Leverkusen against 1.FC Heidenheim this afternoon.

The move is set to put Janis Blaswich on the bench, a tough call given his increasingly strong recent displays.

Head coach Kasper Hjulmand regards Flekken as the better option with the ball at his feet, especially for initiating attacks.

A clear goalkeeping hierarchy, discussed beforehand, was set at the start of Hjulmand's reign.

Even so, Blaswich had hoped to remain number one, particularly after his strong showing in London during the 2-0 defeat to Arsenal.
