Hansi Flick’s first full year in charge of Barcelona has now been recognised with one of Spanish football’s most respected coaching honours.

The German tactician was awarded the Miguel Munoz Trophy by MARCA, following a unanimous vote from their journalists.

The recognition reflects not only the silverware Barcelona collected last season but also the clear transformation in their footballing identity.

For many supporters, the 2024/25 campaign marked a return to a style of play that had been missing for several years.

Barcelona’s season came remarkably close to perfection. The team secured three major trophies, namely, La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Supercopa, while only narrowly missing out on the Champions League final.

While trophies often dominate conversations, what stood out most was how the Blaugrana rediscovered their rhythm and structure on the pitch.

Flick managed to blend discipline with creativity, allowing Barcelona to regain a sense of identity that supporters had been yearning for.

Flick’s assessment of the season

Speaking about the campaign’s defining moments, Flick pointed to the clash against Celta Vigo as a turning point.

He highlighted how the squad fought through difficult periods. He recalled that “in the second half, we were a great team, with a great performance.

“Perhaps at the moment we lack the confidence that we normally should have and need. But now some players are coming back, and that will help us a lot.

“We have a fantastic team, and if we play at a high level like we did in Vigo, everything will be fine.

“We now have nine games in four weeks before the break. We are going to focus on these four weeks, in which we are going to fight to win every game.”

Honoured to win the title

Flick also expressed immense pride in receiving the Miguel Munoz Trophy.

While addressing the significance of the award, he made it clear that success comes from collective work rather than individual brilliance.

“It’s a great honour to receive this award, but it also shows that it’s not just for me, it’s for the team.

Both the players and the coaching staff did a fantastic job last season, and that’s why we won this trophy.”

When analysing the competitive nature of La Liga, Flick offered a thoughtful comparison based on his experience in Germany.

He emphasised that each league carries its own strengths.“I don’t want to compare La Liga with the Bundesliga, but I will say what I have seen here, and I like it.

“In Spain, each team has its own identity and wants to play football; they like to play football.

“And I like that because it’s not easy to prepare for a game against the next team, as each one has a different identity,” he concluded.
