Despite ongoing economic woes, Barcelona have been greatly backed by their youth academy, which has produced a series of talents in recent years.

The likes of Gavi, Lamine Yamal, Alejandro Balde and Marc Casado are all graduates of La Masia, who have gone on to become vital first-team components for Barcelona.

And it appears La Masia have no signs of stopping their production of star talents, with Pedro Rodriguez emerging as the latest sensation.

Pedro Rodriguez: The new star at La Masia

As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Rodriguez is making waves at La Masia with his performances for the youth teams as well as the Spanish Under-17 national team.

At just 16, Pedro has already trained with the first team multiple times and his performances appear to have impressed coach Hansi Flick.

The German tactician has positive feelings about the former Granada starlet, who joined the Barcelona youth ranks in 2019.

Despite his age, Pedro has already made his debut with Barça Atletic, impressing onlookers with his ability to control play and dictate the tempo of the game.

Will Pedro soon make a Barcelona breakthrough?

However, Pedro might have to proceed with caution, in his bid to make a breakthrough in the first-team.

Unlike Casado and Marc Bernal, Pedro is not exploding at a time when Barcelona desperately require midfielders.

In fact, the Catalans look quite stacked in midfield right now, with even Frenkie de Jong finding it difficult to forge a place in the starting eleven.

This essentially means that Flick will have very little room to bring in new faces. As such, Pedro Rodriguez may have to play the waiting game and for now, continue his progress in the lower levels.
