Flick jokes about Barcelona’s results since Laporta stepped down
Hansi Flick urged Barcelona to react at home against Levante after defeats to Atletico Madrid & Girona damaged their confidence and league position.
Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick admitted his team went through difficult period after heavy 4-0 loss to Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey followed by 2-1 defeat to Girona in La Liga.
The loss to Girona cost Barcelona top spot in the league. Flick said the coaching staff reviewed the mistakes and gave the players two days of rest to refresh both physically & mentally.
He stressed that winning at home against Levante is important to restore confidence.
Flick confirmed positive injury news ahead of the Levante match. Pedri has recovered and is ready to return. The coach described him as leader inside the squad.
There was also good news regarding Marcus Rashford who is fit again and available for selection. Meanwhile Gavi remains in recovery, with Flick saying these players represent the leaders of the future at the club.
Looking back at the Girona match, Flick said Barcelona lacked concentration and leadership. He explained that after strong first 20 minute, the team lost control, intensity and defensive balance.
The coach called for hungry players to step up on the pitch, take responsibility and help maintain the team’s structure especially during difficult moments.
Flick also spoke about Ramadan noting that Barcelona face four daytime matches during this period. He confirmed that Lamine Yamal is currently the only player fasting.
The club has prepared special plan to support Yamal focusing on training schedules and nutrition to ensure his performance remains at high level.
When asked about the wider situation at the club, Flick briefly mentioned the political atmosphere.
He joked that Barcelona have lost two match since Joan Laporta stepped down but made it clear he does not want to be involved in the upcoming presidential elections.
