FC Barcelona kick off their UEFA Champions League campaign tonight with an away game against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park.
The two teams will face off after two decades, making for an enticing battle, and without a doubt, St. James’ Park will be up for it.
The atmosphere at Newcastle United’s stadium can be a challenging one for visiting teams, but Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is very much looking forward to experiencing it.
Speaking to the Catalans’ official media channel ahead of the game, the German tactician stated:
“As I’ve heard, the atmosphere here might be the best in the Premier League. For us, it will be an opportunity to learn and experience this atmosphere.”

At the same time, the Barcelona manager was wary of the danger that Eddie Howe’s men pose, especially with their way of playing.
“But also, the opponent last season was very stable in the upper echelons of the league, and this is their second participation in the Champions League,” noted Flick.
“They have a great team, strong, tall, and with a high tempo, so it won’t be an easy match for us.”
Talking about the thought process of his team heading into their first Champions League game of the season, Flick remarked:
“First of all, I’m very happy with the last match against Valencia. I think the team played right at the right time. We played as a team, as a complete unit, and everyone wanted to help and give their best.
“And that’s exactly what we need tomorrow. It doesn’t matter who plays, as long as every player gives their all for the team.”
