Barcelona grabbed a vital 2-1 victory against Real Sociedad, climbing to the top of the La Liga table after Real Madrid’s surprise defeat to Atletico Madrid.
It was not an easy game, but Hansi Flick’s side showed grit and determination to get the job done.
Speaking after the match, Flick admitted the challenge his side faced but praised the collective effort.
“It was a team victory. They knew how to play and it was hard work, but we deserved it,” he said.
The standout moment came from youngster Lamine Yamal, who entered in the 58th minute and provided the assist for Robert Lewandowski’s winning goal.
Flick highlighted the importance of his return: “It’s great to have him back. Everyone has seen how good Lamine is.
“The whole team has done a great job. We’ve had 68 hours of rest since the last game and it’s incredible that all the players are performing at their best.”
The manager underlined the importance of keeping momentum, especially with fixtures coming fast. “Our goal was to get the three points. I really like how Real plays.
“It was tough, but we deserved it. We have our next game in less than 68 hours, and I really appreciate the performance.

“Even though we changed the starting eleven a bit, everyone gave their all. That’s what I love. I’m proud.”
Flick also commented on going top of the table: “This is temporary. It’s fine, it puts pressure on our opponents, on Real Madrid and those behind us. We have to defend this position.”
The German coach had special words for Pedri, who continues to be a key figure in midfield. “Pedri is special. He’s a great player. He’s improving as a leader.
“He’s an incredible player, very important. When he’s on the pitch, he’s everywhere. He gives us control of the ball and knows where he needs to be.
“He’s very good. Together with Frenkie, they’ve organised the team very well. I really enjoy those moments.”
On Pedro ‘Dro’ Fernandez, who started as an attacking midfielder, Flick added, “He’s a very talented player. He’s a Barça player.
“It’s great to have this type of player, so we can manage minutes. I really like that everyone tries to give their best. That’s what we need because we have a lot of games.”
He also updated on Dani Olmo, who was left out. “We were also thinking about the next game, and he will start against PSG.”

The coach was delighted with the midfield duo of Pedri and Frenkie de Jong. “They are exceptional players and they connect very well.
“They know how they want to play, they know each other… It’s fantastic to see this connection.
“With this pairing, it’s harder to put pressure on us and this gives us a lot of possession, creates more space and that’s the most important thing. I’m very proud of the team.”
Flick ended by praising Gerard Martin’s progress: “When he was playing for Barça B and we analysed the team, we saw that he had potential, but what he’s doing now is truly incredible.
“He never disappoints. He always gives his all. It’s not easy for him to play so many minutes either.
“It’s fantastic to have him and to see how the La Masía players are improving,” the manager concluded.
