Barcelona closed the league phase of the UEFA Champions League in style with a convincing 4-1 victory over Copenhagen, a result that secured a fifth-place finish and a direct ticket to the round of 16.
Finishing inside the top eight was a key objective for the club, as it allows them to avoid a potentially tricky play-off round and manage the workload in a packed season.
After the final whistle, Hansi Flick offered an honest assessment of both the performance and the wider picture.
“We were better in the second half than in the first. It’s clear we have to improve,” he said, as reported by AS.
Attention then turned to Barcelona’s Champions League campaign and the importance of finishing inside the top eight.
Flick was satisfied with the outcome and used it to underline the competitiveness of the tournament.
“We’re happy with this situation. There are five Premier League teams in the top eight, which shows the level of that competition.”
One of the key talking points from the match was the appearance of young midfielder Marc Bernal, who continues his return after a serious injury.
“We know he’s a fantastic player and how he can control the game, maintain it. Physically, he has to keep improving.

“He’s had a serious injury. He has to keep improving. He’s had 45 minutes, and I’m sure he’ll get more.”
The Barcelona manager was also asked about the bigger Champions League picture, particularly the fact that major sides such as Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan, and Real Madrid failed to make the top eight.
Flick avoided comparisons and kept the focus firmly on his own squad.
“This competition is very strong. The format also has an influence, but I only look at my team, and the goal was to be in the top eight. We’ve achieved that.”
With Barcelona now well established under his leadership, Flick was reminded of an impressive record of 70 wins in 93 matches.
“It’s not good enough (laughs). You always want to win every game, but that’s not easy. I’m not a big fan of statistics, but sometimes it’s good to know.”
Finally, Flick spoke about Lamine Yamal, who once again played a decisive role and showed signs that his earlier physical issues are behind him.
“His speed on the first goal was impressive. He gets deep against defenders. And not just in attack, but in defence too.
“I remember one ball he recovered. I’m happy. He’s a player of enormous quality. He’s very important to us.”
