Barcelona star Eric García has confirmed that he has been informed of his intended position in boss Hansi Flick’s XI for the season ahead. The role in question? Right-back.

Stopper Eric is of course fresh off establishing himself as a key figure in Barcelona’s defensive ranks this past season. En route to the club’s latest La Liga title, the Spaniard racked up 32 starts.

In the process, Eric appeared to displace Jules Koundé as the first-choice right-back in Catalunya’s capital. The former Manchester City man has spent the bulk of his career to date taking to the pitch as a central defender, but made use of his stellar versatility to thrive in his new berth out wide.

And if the latest comments on his part are anything to go by, then Eric appears set to continue in this new position moving forward.

Speaking during an appearance in front of the media in the aftermath of Wednesday’s Joan Gamper Trophy match, the World Cup winner was drawn on his plans for the year ahead. And Eric went on to explain:

“I’m naturally a centre-back, but Flick told me I’m going to play as a right-back this year. I feel very comfortable and happy playing there. I still have room for improvement of course, but I feel very well as a right-back, too.”
