Hansi Flick’s Barcelona team recently made history by beating Tito Vilanova’s record of most goals scored in consecutive matches.

Following the recent 2-0 win over Espanyol, Barcelona have now scored in 39 consecutive La Liga matches, beating the previous record of 38 held by Tito Vilanova’s Barça, more than a decade ago.

Now, this Barcelona team is chasing another record that was set by Vilanova’s team back in the 2012/13 season.

Indeed, Barcelona are now chasing the elusive record of reaching 100 points in a La Liga season, a feat that was achieved only twice in history.

Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid team in the 2011/12 season was the first side to achieve this feat, followed by Vilanova’s Barça the following season. Now, Flick’s Barcelona is eyeing the same record.

With the season reaching its midway point, the Blaugrana sit comfortably at the top of the table, riding the momentum of nine consecutive victories.

With 49 points already in the bag, their record is significantly better than at this stage last season, and they are now firmly on track to challenge the most prestigious points record in Spanish football history.

Flick, who won the league title last season with 88 points, now has his sights set on triple digits. Barcelona’s current tally of 49 points suggests the feat is within reach.

So far, they have suffered just two defeats, one against Sevilla and the other against Real Madrid. The team has drawn once against Rayo Vallecano.

Since falling in the Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu on October 26, the team has been flawless, stringing together nine straight wins in the domestic league.

Barcelona, therefore, are well on track and if they can continue this momentum during the second half of the campaign, they could be in contention to match or even the record held by Vilanova and Mourinho.
