Sunderland are weighing midfield changes, with an enquiry for Celtic’s Arne Engels reported and a possible permanent exit for Alan Browne.

TuttoMercatoWeb claims Napoli have identified the 22-year-old as cover if André-Frank Zambo Anguissa departs, and says Sunderland and Nottingham Forest have 'submitted enquiries'. It adds that a bid above £21.6 million could persuade Celtic to sell.

Sky Sports previously reported that Sunderland were among several clubs monitoring Engels, with Forest and Fulham also named.

Meanwhile, The Northern Echo reports Middlesbrough are considering a move to re-sign Sunderland loanee Browne after 42 outings last term, when Boro lost the play-off final to Hull City.

Head coach Kim Hellberg is aiming to go one step further next season, and Boro are expected to add at least two midfielders. Browne is understood to remain on their list.
