Florent Ghisolfi pays tribute to Anthony Patterson as 16-year Sunderland association officially ends | OneFootball

Anthony Patterson has completed a permanent move to Championship side Wrexham, ending his 16-year association with Sunderland. The deal is for an initial fee of eight million pounds, and Sunderland could receive further funds depending on performance.

He made more than 150 appearances and was part of two promotions. The goalkeeper spent the second half of last season on loan at Millwall.

During the pre-season tour of the USA, he captained Sunderland against his future employers in Philadelphia, his final outing for his boyhood club.

In a club statement, director of football Florent Ghisolfi said it was the right time for the 26-year-old to move on, praising his rise from joining the academy at age 10 and stressing he will always have a special place at the Stadium of Light.

“Wrexham really suits me in terms of what I want to do in my career, so it feels like a perfect fit. I want to play in the Premier League with Wrexham, and I think everything is in place and ready for the club to do that.”

He was speaking to Wrexham’s club media. Patterson has signed a four-year contract. Phil Parkinson said: “We’re delighted to welcome Anthony to the football club. He's a young keeper, but with a lot of experience at Championship level, and we look forward to working with him.”
